Be real cool, dang real cool.

So the other night Kara and I hung out and did some Octobery things. I'd seen this post on Tumblr where someone mixed glow stick juice with bubbles and made glow-in-the-dark neon bubbles. So we went to the store and bought candy and started a bonfire because Kara also had this stuff you put in fires to make it change color, as you can see. It took us forEVER to build a fire that wasn't just burning tinder (forgive me, Coach Smalley), but once we got it going we put the magic powder in and after we settled down, we got to work on the neon bubbles.

Short lesson on mechanics: Glow sticks work because there's a thin glass tube inside of the plastic one. Both contain chemicals that, when mixed, glow. So when you break the glass tube by bending the plastic one, you're allowing the chemicals to mix. Now, there's 2 reasons there are no awesome photos on here. One is that even if this worked, my camera wouldn't have been able to take photos anyways. The second is it didn't work.

I could have left this entire part out of the story, but I decided to post this failure as a warning to anyone else that might attempt to succeed where we failed. An exciting part of the night was when I realized that cutting open the plastic tube to release the glow juice would also release the tiny bits of glass all over my hands. But who would I be if I let surface wounds stop an attempt to achieve neon bubbles!

Afterwards, I made sure all glass was outside of my body and we watched Dexter while stuffing our faces with Reeses and trying cake vodka mixed with cream soda. For the record it's delicious.
